Salisbury Man Jailed After 47-Mile Police Chase: A Tale of Speed, Drugs, and Cloned Plates
A thrilling 47-mile police chase through the streets of Salisbury ended with a dramatic arrest and a harsh sentence for Ryan Moore, a 20-year-old resident of Carmelite Way. Moore's high-speed pursuit, reaching speeds of 120 mph, was not just a reckless display of driving but a desperate attempt to evade authorities who suspected him of involvement in a drug deal.
The chase began when Wiltshire Police spotted Moore's Mercedes A Class on Avon Approach at approximately 11:05 PM GMT on December 9. Moore's initial attempt to flee was met with a determined pursuit by officers from Hampshire, who joined the chase as it weaved through Salisbury's A30, A303, and M3, showcasing his dangerous maneuvers and disregard for the safety of other road users.
The pursuit came to a dramatic end near Fleet Services when Moore ran out of fuel, bringing his high-speed escape to a halt. During the chase, Moore failed a drugs test for cannabis and was found to have cloned plates on his car, further implicating him in illegal activities.
At Salisbury Crown Court, Moore faced the consequences of his actions. He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, lack of insurance, failure to provide an evidential sample, and using fraudulent registration plates. The court sentenced him to eight months in prison, a three-year and four-month driving disqualification, and a reflection of the seriousness of his actions, according to PC Pedliham from the Salisbury Community Policing Team.
PC Pedliham emphasized the danger Moore posed to others during the chase, stating, 'For a prolonged period, he put the lives of other road users at serious risk by making incredibly poor decisions, driving at excess speed, and dangerously in a desperate attempt to evade police.'
This case serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of reckless behavior on the roads. It also highlights the importance of law enforcement's vigilance in addressing drug-related activities and ensuring public safety.
